Holy Family Park :: Brick Planter The brick planter was built by Marvin Diehl, with the help of Floyd Diehl, Al Kraly and Lee Williamson and Jim Fracol. It was built with grant money. We built it at the same time we installed the benches in the parks. the planter looks so pretty in the summer full of flowers. |
Holy Family Park :: Benches The benches were bought by the association and installed by the same bunch of men. We wanted to make the parks useable and pretty at the same time. Holy Family is in the center of Strawberry Hill, and is seen by everyone coming to the Hill, and sits in front of beautiful Holy Family church. They compliment each other. |
Holy Family Park :: Lighting The lights were installed by the same people, with help from some of the neighborhood group. The lights were bought with grant money from Kansas City Neighborhood Alliance and donations from the community. They will be installed on 5th and 6th street in the near future. We placed them in both parks for the beauty as well as safety. It is our intention to get the 1930 lights back on the Hill and we started with the parks. It is costly, and will take time to get all of the money together. |
Holy Family Park :: Gazebo The gazebo was built by, surprise, the same people, (plus Henry Roper). It was designed by Marvin Diehl. It was also financed by grants. We also had a large domnation from one of the members that helped with the cost of the gazebo. We have annual picnics and music in the gazebo every year, and people love to sit in it and enjoy the park. It is decorated every year for Christmas. |

Veteran's Park This last year, we took a vacant lot, rutted and overgrown, and turned it into a beautiful memorial garden for WW2 veterans of the “Hill.” This was important, as there were more that served, per capita, from the “Hill” than from anywhere in the nation. They deserved this monument to their heroism for their country.
The Memorial Park was built with money from Community Development of Wyandotte county and KCNA, as well as half of the money was raised by the association. It was at a cost of $20,000 plus, but is something that was needed for many years. It was Marvin, Floyd, Jim Fracol, Greg Vogan, Al Kraly, and John Cindrich that built it. It was dedicated in 2004, with many dignitaries attending, including Congressman Dennis Moore and Senator David Haley and Senator Chris Steinegar. We were presented with a flag that flew over the capitol to fly at the memorial by Congressman Moore. It is at Barnett and Thompson, so we invite you to drive by and view it. |
